I haven't written anything in quite a while, so I was looking for something to get going again.  I signed up for[livejournal.com profile] dyno_drabbles this month.  I figured three drabbles with a deadline would do me good.  It's Fred/Hermione month; I figured a new ship would challenge my imagination.  By the way, the first round is posted, and the voting deadline is Friday at 11:59 p.m.  EST.  So I will just encourage you to take a few minutes to vote in the first round.

As I have been working on writing the drabble, I've read a few Fred/Hermione stories just by way of research because I'd never read in this ship before.  It's a pretty rare pairing, but you can tell there are some people out there who have a great deal of affection for this pair.  There aren't as many Hermione/George fics and I was curious about that.  What is it about Fred that would make him a better partner than George?

Very early into my HP fanfic reading, I read my first SS/HG story and was hooked.  I like SS/MM and I've been known to read some Dramione and Lumione.  There is so much fic in this corner of the world that I haven't really had time to look elsewhere.  It's been interesting reading Weasley-based fanfic.  It's a different branch of the HP fanfic world, and some different fanfic norms seem to apply.

So that's what I've been pondering this week and was just posting to get other people's outlooks on this.  The HP fanfic world is a very big place...

What is it about Fred that would make him a better partner than George? Especially since Fred's the one who dies! (lol)

I'm curious about the different norms you're seeing. I've never really gone into Weasley-based fic and would love to hear your insights.

1. It's much more student-based, naturally. There isn't much of Minerva and Hermione becoming good friends as they often do in SSHG fic.

2. The Weasley family is shown with much more depth than they are in most of SSHG fic. Except, oddly enough, Ron is often still a jerk--at least in Fred/Hermione fic. I guess that's the reason she turns to Fred.

3. Hermione is often portrayed as overstressed and needing to loosen up a bit. In SSHG fic, her overworking tendencies just fit right in with Severus.

Hmmm... all very interesting points. I must admit that for the most part, I have not read much outside of SS/HG, dramione, lumione, and some threesomes.(Although I do believe at some point I may have read I may have read a couple of threesomes involving Hermione and the twins.) I wonder why there isn't more Hermione/George fic as that would make more sense since he survived the war.
I will pop over to read the drabbles and vote.

That was my thought, too.

I will pop over to read the drabbles and vote.

Thanks. I hope you enjoy them. I thought they made for some fun reading.

Well, I have read no Hermione/pick a twin fic, so I am pulling a Dumbledore and going off in to the land of speculation. Fred does tend to be the dominant twin. Many identify with Hermione as a strong female character and wish to pair her with another perceived strong character.

Having said that, I would rather see her with George. While he is not the dominant twin I think he is the stronger of the two. The anchor, which is also the way I see Hermione in her role in the trio. George survived and was able to pick up the pieces and rebuild. Fred left behind would have spun out of control. I don't think even Molly could have stopped him from self destruction.

Hope your summer is off to a wonderful start!

Your comment really got me thinking. I'm married to an identical twin, so I do understand that dynamic of the dominant twin. I don't think I have thought about the twins to the extent of being able to pick out the dominant one, so I would be interested in knowing what makes you say that Fred is the dominant and also what makes you think that Fred would have "spun out of control" if George had been the one killed. Or what makes you feel that George is the emotional anchor.

Your thoughts on what kind of relationship Hermione would have with either based on those comments really made me think. I was thinking about my husband and his twin and who is the emotional anchor there, what would happen if I was married to the other one, etc.

Thanks for a very thought-provoking comment. *hugs*

Thanks for the pimpage! And I'm glad you're venturing into new territory with Fred and Hermione. Sometimes that can really stir up the muse!

Well, I hope this qualifies as pimpage without "specifically pimping" my own drabble over there. *wibbles*

It was fun to get out my quill and parchment again. :)
