I wrote about 2,379 words this week and wrote all seven days.  It's pretty awesome output for me because I write. so. slow...  I'm glad the nice mods at [livejournal.com profile] 5_for_fivemade these inspirational "Just Keep Going" stickers.

A few weeks ago I read a ficlet at Ashwinder which I thought made beautiful use of language.  When I read the reviews, I found out that the author was posting her first fanfiction writing.  Then I found out she had an LJ account, so I friended her.  [livejournal.com profile] dogstar06  is a college student who loves reading fanfics, movies, Shakespeare, and the Phoenix Suns.  She has completed her ficlet which is called Encounters.

It can be found at Ashwinder:  http://ashwinder.sycophanthex.com/viewstory.php?sid=20522

I hope you will welcome her to LJ and take a look at her story.

Happy Sunday, everybody.  Go Cleveland State!  (Hey, it's my shout-out to an Ohio "Cinderella" team in the NCAA men's basketball tournament.  Sorry to any Wake Forest fans.)

After almost a year (which is a horribly long time for such a short story), I've finally finished my Walking Club drabble series.  This last "chapter" is longer than the first two parts combined, and I feel pretty happy with it.  If you like silly fluffiness, you will find it posted at the following places:

I'd like to congratulate those members of my f-list who were winners or runners-up in the third round of the  [livejournal.com profile] sshg_awards  !  I've had so much fun reading, nominating, and voting for your stories!  Well done!

Would someone raised in a British Muggle environment, such as Hermione, know who Barney the Dinosaur is?  I want to use Barney as a simile/metaphor and would like to know if British Muggles know who he is or if he's just an American celebrity.

So, a couple of weeks ago  [livejournal.com profile] grangersnape100 posted a grey nightshirt challenge, which made for very enjoyable reading, I must say.  However, I couldn't remember ever seeing Snape in a grey nightshirt in the books.  I know I've often seen that in fandom writings, so I'm guessing there's a basis in the books.  Since my HP books are still packed since our move, I'm hoping someone on the flist can enlighten me.  Do we see the grey nightshirt in the HP books, and, if so, where?

I've finished making my nominations for [livejournal.com profile] sshg_awards   !  It's the first time I've made nominations for any of the fanfiction awards, and it was an interesting experience.  I didn't nominate in all categories, but I did nominate the pieces I absolutely felt deserved to be nominated.  *points to icon*  Now I'm looking forward to the reading and voting experience!  *tired but happy*

While I don't have as much writing output as others, my very first bits of fanfiction writing do qualify for this round of the[info]sshg_awards .  If you like humorous drabbles, you may like these.

So, this afternoon I was playing a word game when I was asked the meaning of the word turgid and given several choices of definition.  I immediately picked the definition "swollen, inflated" because I remembered that I had seen that word used to describe a certain portion of Severus Snape's anatomy in various pieces of fanfiction.  Who says that SS/HG fanfiction is a waste of time?  Obviously, it's highly educational!  LOL!

I'm going to rec a fic found at TPP.  It's called "Loving the Enemy."  Muggline has been translating yet another of the German fanfics.  (If you haven't read "The Godfather," it's a very interesting take on SS/HG.)  About "Loving the Enemy," Muggline told me, "The plot takes place in the Marauder era.  The story starts on the Hogwarts Express when Lily Evans and the others start their seventh year and it ends on Halloween, when the Potters are murdered by Voldemort. It is a magnificent tale of how Lily and James fall in love with each other (although it is also a long love story of Sirius and Lily's best friend with a very mysterious plot about dangerous magical artifacts included)."  It sounds exciting!  It hasn't been getting very many reviews on TPP, so I'm guessing that many people haven't found it yet.  The German story is already finished, and Muggline is very prompt about posting updates.  I hope you'll take a look!

Chapter 2 of The Walking Club is posted at TPP and Ashwinder and has been getting some very nice reviews.  Thanks to anybody from the flist who has reviewed so far.  Here are the links:

In house remodeling details, we've got some of our kitchen cabinets installed.  Hooray!  It's starting to look like a kitchen!

And I managed to do some yearly unit planning for my kindergarten class today.  So I'm feeling a bit less stressed about that too.  (On the other hand, we have a prospective student open house in one week, and my room is no where near ready to be seen by the public...)

I've been working on a series of drabbles that starts out with student!Hermione and mentor!Severus, but that hasn't been going too far.  Then a couple of days ago, I thought of a continuation to my silly Walking Club drabble that I wrote in April.  It only took a couple of hours to write it up, which is a record for me and such a relief after banging my head against the wall on the other drabble series.  The Walking Club is Formed  is up at [profile] grangersnape100

Okay, so I'll be the first to admit that I have not written much fiction.  I've recently had a strange experience, and I was wondering if anyone can shed any light on what the deal is.  The drabbles I've written so far have either been cute little humorous jokes or cloyingly sweet SSHG family fluff.  For these pieces I sat down at my word processor and wrote a rough draft, let it sit for a few days as I looked at it and tightened it up, etc.   Then I posted it.  Lately I've been working on a larger set of drabbles that has a more serious tone to it.  For some reason when I sit down at the computer to write it's like struggling for every word, but if I sit and write it out by hand, the words just seem to flow.  Has anyone had a similar experience?  Does this whole writing process get any easier with time?  It's not that I don't enjoy writing, but for me getting even 100 words down is a struggle.  I can't imagine writing several thousand.

I just posted my second set of drabbles at [profile] grangersnape100  this week.  It's a continuation of my old and grey challenge piece about Severus and Hermione's kids.  Plus I posted my walking club drabble at The Petulant Poetess and Ashwinder.  And I have some more ideas for some other things... it's kind of exciting!  All this sudden creativity could be a result of the fact that I found out this week that I am NOT one of the staff members being cut at my school.  That's a load of stress gone.  Happy weekend!

I know that the British term for sneakers is "trainers."  But what would be the British term for a sweat suit?  Jogging suit?  Running clothes?

Yes, I did!  I posted my first fanfic at The Petulant Poetess yesterday.  It's my little dental exam drabble "Root Canal!" from

[profile] grangersnape100.  I've even got some reviews.  I'm excited!

Edit on April 12:  I'm now posted at Ashwinder, too.
