The Cleveland Cavaliers are 6-1 in their preseason game record.  Right now they are at the top of their division.  As my home is filled with basketball fans (even though I am not rabid about the sport), that makes me happy.

I might mention that the Miami Heat's record is currently 2-4.  Lebron James sure has made a difference for that team.  (Do we detect a smidge of sarcasm here?)     :-p

My friend loaned me a book called Haiku U.:  From Aristotle to Zola, 100 Great Books in 17 Syllables by David M. Bader.  I perused it right after school.  Some of these made me giggle, so I thought I might share some with you.

And, in the world of music, I found a German baroque hymn composer named Severus Gastorius.  I didn't realize that Severus was a real name.  I thought JKR had made it up.

A few minutes ago, one of my students was trying to apologize for the bad start he had to his morning.  He said, "I had a bad attitude.  I lost my temperature."  Awwww...   *grins*

Today was our 100th day of school for the year.  Kindergarteners get really excited about it.  We did a number of fun activities which they really liked.

The whole thing almost fell apart though because of an unexpected snowstorm.  We were expected to get 2 - 4 inches last night, which would have made traffic bad, but manageable.  I planned to leave in time to get there early so I could get special activities set up.  I had been home sick again yesterday, so I couldn't set them up yesterday.  Instead, when I walked outside this morning, I realized we had more like 6 - 8 inches of snow.  And it was still snowing about an inch per hour!  The roads were terrible, and it took me 1 1/2 hours to get to school (about 3 times the amount of time it usually takes).  In fact, I was actually 5 minutes late to school!  Aaach!

Fortunately, my principal watched the kids till I got there, and the students pitched in and helped get things ready so we could have our special day.  *happy sigh*

Sadly, the stomach flu has been making the rounds in my family this past week.  Today is my day to have it.  On the positive side, I've been assured that the worst should be over in a few more hours.  Unfortunately, I don't even feel much like reading.  And I've been thisclose for about 10 days to finishing my Walking Club drabble series, but due to sickness and general busy-ness, I haven't been able to put the finishing touches on it.  *frustrated sigh*

Well, I'm home sick today, and my 4-year-old probably has pink eye (which means that Mr. McG and I will probably get it as well).  But it does leave time for me to congratulate those people who got nominated for  [livejournal.com profile] sshg_awards  Round 3.  Congrats to all, but especially those on my f-list!

So after we moved into our new house, it took our phone company a month to figure out that they couldn't get high-speed internet to our house.  You would think it wouldn't take that long.  You would think they would have a map or something to tell them where the range of their service area is, but I digress.  Anyway, we decided not to continue with that company.

Finally today our new phone company has installed high-speed internet at our house!  Hot diggity!  I'm no longer stuck with internet access only at school.

Speaking of school, it is Friday!  Next week we only have two days of school and then we're on Thanksgiving break!  Yippee!!

And we're going out to eat tonight.  After which, I will probably finish up my nominations for the SSHG Awards.  Which I'll be able to do at home on my computer!

Life is looking really good right at the moment...

I'm so excited that my Chicago Cubs have clinched their division! (They're a baseball team, for my non-American friends.) I've been a Cubs fan since I was 8. I certainly hope their long drought at getting to (and hopefully winning) the World Series is finally over.

I can't get our new modem to work at home, so I'm stuck with not much time on the Internet at school. *sigh* Hopefully this week, I can get back to keeping in touch with all of you. I hope you all are taking care of yourselves.

My son, who is 4, is afraid of leaves.  Yes, I said leaves.  On trees, bushes, weeds, flowers, etc.  I've explained that leaves are good, pretty, belong on fruit trees, give us oxygen, etc.  I don't understand a fear of leaves.  *headdesk*

Chapter 2 of The Walking Club is posted at TPP and Ashwinder and has been getting some very nice reviews.  Thanks to anybody from the flist who has reviewed so far.  Here are the links:

In house remodeling details, we've got some of our kitchen cabinets installed.  Hooray!  It's starting to look like a kitchen!

And I managed to do some yearly unit planning for my kindergarten class today.  So I'm feeling a bit less stressed about that too.  (On the other hand, we have a prospective student open house in one week, and my room is no where near ready to be seen by the public...)

I hope all of you who are going to Portus will have a great time!

We are celebrating my son's 4th birthday and our 19th anniversary this week.

I got back from my family reunion, but my husband's grandfather passed away, so we'll be off to Michigan for the funeral in a couple of days.  I'm not sure if I'll have much time for catching up / keeping up with LJ.  I hope everyone on the f-list is doing well.  I'll try to catch up with you when I can.

This is nabbed from [livejournal.com profile] subversa. My parents took us camping every summer. We camped so we could afford to go all over like this (although I did visit some of these states as an adult). It's a lot of fun to see it mapped out like this.

I have 4 teaching days and 2 faculty working days left of the school year.  Then I'll be done.  I'm so tired.  I took my 2nd graders on their class trip today.  They were good.   We had fun.  But it is so tiring.  I haven't had time or energy to write.  I haven't really been able to keep up with LJ.  We're still trying to get the work done on our house so we can move in.  My three-year-old is going through a temper tantrum at bedtime stage.  I'm exhausted.  Just thought I'd let you know why very few of you have heard anything from me.  On the upside, only a week to go.  :-)

I found this icon today by [personal profile] janeaverage.  I've been looking for one to explain my paper grading technique lately.  ;-)  I often look up obscure holidays to fascinate the 2nd graders.  Truly (I'm not making this up) today (May 4) is International Star Wars Day.  On this day, you are to greet others by saying, "May the fourth be with you."  I know.  Very punny...   Whoever thought of this had too much time on their hands.  Obviously NOT a teacher.  Well,  may the fourth be with you.

Just flew back in from my conference in Minnesota today. I got a chance to see lots of friends from when we lived there and even some relatives. I learned a bit too. All in all, a successful trip. Now I'm going to try to catch up with LJ and fanfic. Yippee!

Here is the recipe for Chunky Gingered Applesauce. It turns out to be rather like a compote, but yummy! This comes from the Bisquick Cookbook, so I can't take credit for it. I've attempted to convert to metric measurements (for any non-US residents who may be wishing to try this), but I have no idea what the common metric measurements are for cooking. However, fortunately this recipe lends itself to a bit of tampering. :-)

After [personal profile] lady_karelia  posted that she had made latkes and applesauce, I've been craving that.  So tonight I made potato pancakes and a recipe I have for chunky cinnamon-ginger applesauce.  Yum!  Thanks for the idea!

My son has a bad cold.  My husband stayed home with him in the morning, and I arranged for my class to be covered in the afternoon.  He seems to be feeling better tonight.  Hopefully we'll all get more sleep tonight than last night.

On Wednesday evening I'll be flying out to go to a conference in Minneapolis, so I'll be "out of business" as far as Live Journal is concerned from Wednesday through Saturday.  I'll miss you guys.  Try not to do anything too exciting while I'm gone.  :-)

I just posted my second set of drabbles at [profile] grangersnape100  this week.  It's a continuation of my old and grey challenge piece about Severus and Hermione's kids.  Plus I posted my walking club drabble at The Petulant Poetess and Ashwinder.  And I have some more ideas for some other things... it's kind of exciting!  All this sudden creativity could be a result of the fact that I found out this week that I am NOT one of the staff members being cut at my school.  That's a load of stress gone.  Happy weekend!
