We're going camping this weekend (leaving very soon), and I will likely not have internet access unless the campground is a whole lot fancier than I think it is. So have a good weekend, everyone! I will "see" you Sunday night or Monday.
I couldn't resist the combination of cheaper rates for the convention and hotel, a more intimate atmosphere than the usual con, and especially the members of my f-list who have either registered or are thinking about it. So I registered for Aeternitas! I went to the Hogsmeade Witches Weekend (which was wonderful), but this will be my first con experience. (You see how positive I'm being? I have decided that I will have a job by then so that I can afford to go...)
Comment and let me know if you are going or thinking about it or not. I'm really curious to see who I might meet or see again... SQUEEE!

Here is a sample of my cross-stitching to show that I am a capable cross-stitcher. My idea for the Exchange Bingo is an HP cross-stitch bookmark. Possibly an illuminated style letter for house affiliation, favorite character, etc. Or your house affiliation, character name, etc. in cross-stitch script. Or how about a favorite quote from the books (maybe something bookish that Hermione says for your bookmark)? I'm pretty wide-open about color choices, etc.
This is the last week of Fred/Hermione drabbles at dyno_drabbles . There's humor, angst, and romance this week here.

You're Donna Noble!
Oi! Wotch it, Martian boy! The Doctor thinks he can spout all kinds of ridiculous technobabble and 'Last Time Lord Angst' at you just because he's from outer space, huh? Well, you're not having any of it! You've got a heart of gold and a will of iron, and you're a rather boggling combination of a romantic idealist and a staunch realist. But you never let logical paradoxes get to you; you prefer to shoehorn the universe into a little box of your own perception. More often than not, it fits... probably because the universe is too intimidated to argue!

As I have been working on writing the drabble, I've read a few Fred/Hermione stories just by way of research because I'd never read in this ship before. It's a pretty rare pairing, but you can tell there are some people out there who have a great deal of affection for this pair. There aren't as many Hermione/George fics and I was curious about that. What is it about Fred that would make him a better partner than George?
Very early into my HP fanfic reading, I read my first SS/HG story and was hooked. I like SS/MM and I've been known to read some Dramione and Lumione. There is so much fic in this corner of the world that I haven't really had time to look elsewhere. It's been interesting reading Weasley-based fanfic. It's a different branch of the HP fanfic world, and some different fanfic norms seem to apply.
So that's what I've been pondering this week and was just posting to get other people's outlooks on this. The HP fanfic world is a very big place...

I had my students write short stories. Here is a passage from one of them, in which the main character is part of an elite Marine Corps task force:
When they were outside, they put a gun to my head, and... BANG BANG! I opened my eyes to see that [the sniper] had killed them both with excrement precision.
Oh dear. What could possibly be in those bullets?

In other news, one of the teachers at our school broke her ankle and had to have surgery. So I've added three math classes to my schedule. It's been going okay, but the extra classes have made my overall schedule very busy.
Also, I've got a new laptop and we're now wireless at our house, so I am having a great time playing on the internet.
